Throughout history, many women have asked questions about our world. When told, “You can’t”, they replied, “try and stop me.” This quote is from the book ‘ Women in Science: 50 Fearless Pioneers Who Changed the World’ and it resonates with me even though I am not a scientist.

Being a woman is not easy every day. From an early age, I was made aware of my body, my surroundings, what I could or couldn’t do. Depending on where we live, we do not always hold the same rights and opportunities. Yet, we must remember those who were brave enough to fight for us, for me to even be able to write this article.

Struggles still exist. It’s important to speak up and do the right thing but also take time to acknowledge how far we’ve come. To celebrate women all around the world and how magnificent we can be.

Books are my way of either escaping reality or reconnecting with it. So, I decided for this special month, to embrace my reality as a woman.

Here are six books to read during March:

1) Invisible women by Caroline Criado Perez. Invisible Women takes on what we don’t know — and why. The result is a powerful, important, and eye-opening analysis of the gender politics of knowledge and ignorance with the potential to change things.

2) Girl, Woman, Other by Bernadine Evaristo. This book follows 12 characters on their journeys. A beautiful combination of stories about identity, womanhood, race, and the realities of modern society.

3) Bad Feminist by Roxane Gay. The author takes us on through her evolution as a woman. We read through her journey while following the state of feminism today.

4) Making a life of one’s own by Kate Bolick. A navigation story through a woman’s career, marriage, and life.

Celebrating women and their accomplishments must start from a young age. If you have young daughters and sons, you could show them some important figures in a fun way:

1) Women in Science: 50 fearless pioneers who changed the world by Rachel Ignotofsky. An illustrated celebration of powerful figures to know in the science industry.

2) She Persisted: 13 American Women who Changed the World by Chelsea Clinton, Alexandra Boiger. Let’s celebrate those who have helped shape the United States through their perseverance.

Happy Women’s History Month to all of us, have a good read!
